College Credit Earned in High School

Many students begin their UGA journey with college credit already completed. In a typical year, incoming freshmen arrive with an average of four or more college courses earned through a variety of programs like Dual Enrollment, AP, IB, etc. With thoughtful planning in high school, such as choosing rigorous courses, performing well on end‑of‑course exams, and submitting those scores to the UGA Registrar’s Office, students can be more academically prepared and enter college with several courses already completed. This early credit gives students the flexibility to pursue double majors, study abroad, complete internships, or even change majors while still staying on track to graduate in four years.

Dual Enrollment

To receive credit for dual enrollment courses, students must request that the Registrar’s Office at the dual‑enrollment institution send an official transcript directly to the UGA Admissions Office for all courses taken.

To determine how dual‑enrollment courses transfer, students can check the UGA Transfer Equivalency.

Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB) & AICE

UGA awards generous credit and placement based on qualifying exam scores. On average, incoming first‑year students at UGA earn more than 125,000 combined hours of college credit from College Board Advanced Placement exams alone, with over 95% of incoming first-year students having completed AP or IB classes.

Students can review the current AP and IB credit charts to see which scores qualify for UGA credit.

Departmental Exams

Several UGA departments offer placement or credit exams during New Student Orientation. Students who already have qualifying AP or IB scores may not need to take these departmental exams.

CLEP Exams

UGA does not award placement or credit for scores on College Board CLEP examinations.
