Transfer Wait List FAQs

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions understands that applicants may have questions about the Wait List and what it means for their Transfer application. This FAQ is designed to explain how the wait list process works and outline the steps you need to take to remain under consideration.

How is the wait list established?

More students apply to the University of Georgia than can be accommodated in our classes. Unfortunately, each year many students must be denied admission. There are other students that we are confident would be successful here and we would be pleased to admit if space became available. These students are offered a spot on the wait list.

Now that I have the option of being placed on the wait list, what do I do next?

If you would like to reserve a spot on the wait list, please visit your application status page and indicate your desire to be placed on the wait list. You will also need to select the term for which you would like to be considered: Fall only, or both Fall and Spring. Be sure to make your selection by June 1.

I applied for Summer but was offered a spot on the wait list. Can I still be considered for Summer?

No. Summer admission is not an option through the wait list. If you choose to remain on the wait list, you may select consideration for Fall only or for both Fall and Spring admission by June 1. If you are not interested in Fall or Spring admission, please decline your offer to be placed on the wait list.

How many people are currently on the wait list?

We will not know the exact number until after June 1. Because this is our first year utilizing a wait list for transfer admissions, we do not have historical data to indicate how many students may ultimately be admitted. Admission from the wait list will depend on the number of enrollment deposits we receive as we work to meet our enrollment goals.

Can you give me an idea of how many students will eventually be accepted off the wait list this year?

We try to make an accurate prediction of how many students will accept our offers of admission, but we have to wait until after June 1 for the actual deposits to arrive.

Is the wait list ranked?

No. The wait list is not numbered or ranked.

Which term should I select?

You should select the term(s) for which you would like to enroll. We encourage students to consider this choice carefully. If you choose ONLY to be considered for Fall, you will not be considered for any other term.

If I am admitted off of the wait list for Spring Semester, can I enroll at another institution or continue at my current institution for Fall?

Yes. Students admitted from the wait list for Spring may enroll or continue at any accredited institution for the preceding Fall. Georgia residents may want to consider coursework at any number of USG institutions. Students may choose not to enroll in a post-secondary institution during the Fall and instead utilize this time to work, travel or volunteer. All students admitted for Spring will receive information during the Fall regarding their transition to UGA in January.

May I send supplementary material?

No. Your file has already been evaluated and reviewed based on the application materials and supporting documents submitted by our application materials deadline.

Should I deposit at another college or make plans to continue at my current institution?

Yes. Because wait list outcomes are unpredictable, we encourage you to deposit at the college you feel is the best fit or make plans to continue at your current institution so that you have a confirmed place for the fall. If you are admitted from our wait list, you will be required to pay a non‑refundable commitment deposit to UGA. At that time, you should also notify the college where you previously deposited, or your current institution, that your plans have changed.

If I am admitted, how will I be notified?

You will be notified via an email or letter and will be able to view any updates to your decision via your application status page.

Will there be any financial aid for students accepted off the wait list?

If admitted, students who have completed the financial aid application process will receive an email with instructions on how to review an estimated award.
