Spring 2027 First‑Year Admits FAQs

My acceptance letter said I was admitted for Spring 2027. Was that a mistake on the letter? Did I accidentally apply for Spring on my application?

No. You were reviewed for admission for the Fall term that you indicated on your application, but ultimately WERE offered admission for the Spring semester which starts in January. Each year we are able to extend offers of admission for a January (Spring semester) start to a limited number of students who would have otherwise been denied for fall but were very strong applicants.

Is there any way my acceptance can still be considered for Summer 2026 or Fall 2026?

No. Your admission is only valid for the Spring 2027 semester which begins in January.

Can I take classes at another college or university in Fall 2026 that count towards my degree at UGA?

Yes! Many students who start in Spring will attend another college or university in the Fall in order to make sure they are still on track to graduate in a timely manner. Georgia residents may want to consider coursework at any number of USG institutions. Other students may choose to use these few months to work, study abroad or volunteer with an organization.

Does it matter which college I attend in the Fall? Does it matter which classes I take?

No. You may attend any other college or university and are not required to take specific classes, but it is encouraged to make sure, before registering for classes at another college, that those classes will transfer to UGA. You can see a list of transferrable classes using our online Transfer Equivalency tool.

Remember that your college GPA begins with your first enrollment at any college, so treat your Fall term seriously if you plan to take classes at another institution.

Will I still be able to live in a residence hall if I start at UGA in Spring 2027?

Yes! In fact, all first-year students are required to live on campus, including those students who start in January. For more information regarding University Housing, please visit their website or email [email protected]. Housing registration for spring begins in early October.

If I have a friend that will start at UGA in Fall 2026, will I be able to request to live in a residence hall room with them when I start in Spring 2027?

Although we guarantee all incoming first-year students an on-campus space, it is hard to predict if an entire room will become available for spring for you and an intended roommate. Both you and your friend should email University Housing at [email protected] once you complete your housing registration in October if you would like to make this request.

When should I register for housing and orientation?

Registration information for housing and orientation will open in early October. Please do not register for housing until you see “Residence Halls beginning January” as an option in the housing registration process.

Should I attend a Summer orientation session?

No. Summer orientations are designed for those students starting in Summer or Fall. You will have a specific orientation in December or January before classes begin. More specific information on registering for Spring Orientation will be provided for you in early October.

When will I meet with my UGA advisor and register for classes?

You will meet with your UGA advisor and register for classes during your Spring Orientation in December or January before classes begin. More specific information on registering for Spring Orientation will be provided for you in October.

If I intend to accept my offer of admission for Spring 2027, when should I submit a commitment deposit? If I don’t submit it before the deadline and then decide later that I want to attend UGA in the Spring, will I still be accepted?

To reserve your spot for the Spring semester, you must submit your $300 non-refundable, non-transferable commitment deposit by May 1. If you do not submit your commitment deposit, we will assume you have declined your offer of admission to UGA. You can pay the deposit through your applicant status page or by working with the Bursar’s Office.

Are there any scholarships that are offered to students who start in the Spring?

There are no additional academic scholarships available to students in the Spring, but you may apply for need-based aid. Please visit the Office of Student Financial Aid’s website or email [email protected].
