Returning UGA Students

Undergraduate students who have taken time off from UGA may need to reapply to continue their studies. Former students can explore which category best fits their situation below. Each group has its own path back to the university, and students can review the appropriate readmission option to continue their studies.

Former Undergraduate Students

A former UGA undergraduate student is defined as an individual who meets all of the following criteria:

  • Was previously enrolled at UGA as a degree-seeking undergraduate student
  • Completed at least one semester at UGA
  • Is not currently enrolled at UGA
  • Intends to return to UGA and register for undergraduate classes

UGA undergraduate students who have taken less than one year off prior to their intended re-enrollment may already be eligible to register for classes without having to submit an application.

Readmission After Dismissal

If you were previously dismissed from UGA for any reason, you must complete all steps below to be considered for readmission:

  • Contact the dean’s office of the college or school where you were last enrolled at UGA (even if you plan to apply to a different program or college).
  • Submit a former/returning student application before the deadline of the desired term of re-enrollment. You may submit the application before the dismissal is cleared.

Important: Dismissal clearance means you are eligible to apply for readmission. It does not guarantee that you will be readmitted or automatically enrolled.

Former Graduate Students

Students who were previously enrolled in Graduate or Professional School at UGA and now wish to pursue an undergraduate degree, should apply as a Transfer student.

Former Transient Students

Former Transient students wishing to re-enroll only for another transient term should complete another Transient admission application.
