A Dual Enrollment applicant is a local high school student who wishes to enroll in university-level coursework at the University of Georgia prior to high school graduation while simultaneously completing graduation requirements at his or her home high school.
Please note that only highly qualified local high school students living in the following counties surrounding the greater Athens area are eligible for consideration as a Dual Enrollment student: Banks, Barrow, Clarke, Elbert, Franklin, Greene, Hart, Jackson, Madison, Morgan, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Stephens, and Walton.
We expect these students to be both academically and socially prepared for the University of Georgia, as these students will be treated as regular college students. Students should be organized and display the independence required to succeed in the UGA environment. The University suggests that any student considering this option speak with their high school counselor well in advance of our application deadlines.
Dual Enrollment Admission Criteria
Applicants will undergo a holistic review process. “Demonstrated academic achievement” is the primary factor in the Dual Enrollment review. While students are still taking high school classes, we expect applicants to have taken advantage of rigor at their school before starting Dual Enrollment at UGA. The academic review centers on several criteria: the student’s grade point average (GPA) in core academic courses, the rigor of a student’s course selection, and his or her best combination of scores on the SAT or ACT (optional for Fall 2021)*
*For Spring/Summer/Fall 2022 and beyond, SAT/ACT scores will be required for First Year and Dual Enrollment applicants.
Additionally, consideration will be given for intellectual pursuits, creative endeavors and intercultural experiences, public service, co-curricular activities, community involvement, leadership and family commitments, integrity and personal maturity.
Dual enrollment applicants will also complete two essays as part of the application review.
