The Summer/Fall Transfer Admission application is now open, and with it comes a few changes or updates. For both freshman and transfer admission, UGA has specific enrollment goals for new students to ensure that they have access to the resources needed to have a successful academic career. The transfer enrollment goal for Summer/Fall 2025 is approximately 2,000 new enrolling (not admitted but enrolling) transfer students, and you can find the full details of our enrollment plans at the UGA Enrollment Management website. UGA is dedicated to providing a great educational experience to our students, and as such we need to make sure they have access to the resources needed to be successful. Applicants will still need to meet the set consideration levels to be considered for transfer admission. We are now seeing a larger number of students applying as transfers, so our office needs to take steps to make sure we enroll the correct number of students. As such, here are a few steps we will be taking for the Summer/Fall 2025 transfer applicant pool to hit our targeted enrollment goals.
- As before, the application and materials deadline for Summer/Fall transfers is March 1. We will be reviewing transfer files throughout late January, February and March, but we will need to hold off on releasing any decisions until we are able to look at the overall applicant pool and make decisions in order to hit our enrollment goals. There is no difference in Summer vs Fall reviews, so please apply to the term you are actually wanting to enroll.
- For transfer students who well exceed our transfer consideration levels, we will move forward with an admission offer. The threshold for 2025 is a 3.50 or higher transfer GPA for students with 30-59 completed transfer hours or a 3.20 or higher transfer GPA for students with 60 or more completed transfer hours.
- For transfer students on the lower range of our transfer consideration levels, we will conduct a secondary review to look at additional information. The threshold for 2025 is a 3.30-3.49 transfer GPA for students with 30-59 completed transfer hours or a 3.00-3.19 transfer GPA for students with 60 or more completed transfer hours.
- This secondary review will include reviewing the new transfer admission purpose statement to let us know more about your academic plans, grade trends, a review of your coursework and how it aligns with your future academic major, etc. Our goal in both our academic review and in this more detailed review is to make sure a student is prepared for the rigorous coursework at UGA.
- This new review process will not impact the Transfer Pathway students (students who were Wait Listed as freshman applicants and offered a Transfer Pathway option for Fall 2025), as these students have an agreement to be admitted if they meet specific academic criteria.
- Once UGA Admissions has reviewed the entire transfer applicant pool and projected out the yield numbers to ensure our enrollment numbers, we will then be able to make decisions, hopefully in mid-late March.
- It is key that transfer applicants submit their application and additional materials by the March 1 deadline, as late materials could have a negative impact on a decision.
In addition, UGA Admissions will be shifting the transfer deadline for Spring 2026 to July 15 so we can have more time to review the entire spring transfer applicant pool and ensure our enrollment goals are attained.
I hope this helps better explain the Transfer Admissions Process for everyone.
Go Dawgs!
